De s c r i p t i o n :
This customer set up a system to life-test a
new belt material. This was done by suspending
weights from the belt and applying a specific
acceleration/deceleration profile to the load,
thus putting a known tension on the belt.
O b j e c t
i v e :
-
The system must be capable
of executing the motion profile 24 hours
a day for 6 months. Cycle times was critical
as the customer’s project schedule
specified that the system perform 1,000,000+
cycle in 30 days.
-
The system had to compensate
for slippage in the belt without affecting
cycle time.
-
Since this is a vertical
application, the drive system must include
a power-off brake in case of power outage.
-
The system must be user-friendly
with a minimal learning curve for integration
and programming as the customer had no experience
with programmable motion control and servo
system.
S
o l u t i o n :
We delivered a high-performance, robust, and
user-friendly solution. In addition, members
of Minarik’s Technical Resource Center
(TRC) and Advanced Technology Group (ATG)
assisted the customer in integration and programming.
The system consisted of the following:
- Programmable Motion Controller:
Applied Motion Products SI-100:
With its easy-to-use graphic programming
language, the customer was generating source
code within minutes of taking the SI-100
out of the box.
- Brushless Servo Drive
- Brushless Servo Motor
- Danaher Totalizing
Counter: Used to keep track of
cycle count
- Micro Switch 990
Series Proximity Sensors: Used
as limit/home sensors. Since the operation
indication LED is “Ring LED,”
it’s visible from practically anywhere
in the customer’s testing lab. This
proved to be very useful when setting up
the system.
